See Author's Note at end.

Anna Reyes-Doggett had been weaned and ends
had to be met, so Monica had returned to the bureau
with partner John Doggett. The murder case had been
long and exhausting in Dallas. Both agents were in
Kersh's office filling him on on the case.

"Stangely enough, Turner had it in for his two sons,
daughter and wife... uh, Sir, may I please use your
bathroom?"

Doggett could see his wife's pale face as she ran as
quickly as she could and understood.

"Doggett, what's going on?" Kersh asked.

"She'll tell you."

Monica washed up and returned. "Sorry, Sir. It's not
this meeting making me sick. Better call cleaning
staff. We're expecting our second baby in seven
months. I should have told you."

"Congratulations." He called in the cleaner. "Let's
continue if you're up to it."

"The rest of the information is in the file," Doggett
advised him. "I think Monica needs a little TLC and
some Tums. Are we done?"

"Yes, I believe so. Go on. There's not much on your
desk yet."

The pair left the office. "John, of all places... "

"Never mind. Just go to the office and take small
sips of water. I'll go buy a bottle of Tums. Be back
as quickly as possible."

*Is this going to be a rough one?* she wondered.

Doggett returned within ten minutes. "Two. Now.
No food for a while. Just absorb them."

"Make I should ask for time off," Monica replied, as
she swallowed the tablets."

"Maybe. I'll ask about it. Kersh is gonna hate me for
that after screwing up the Gibbons case. Maybe Dana
Scully can help me."

Within fifteen minutes, Scully was upstairs to Reyes and
Doggett's place in the bullpen, after breaking the news to
Mulder.

Scully turned to Mulder. "That was Reyes. I'd better get
upstairs."

"What's wrong?"

"Later." She grabbed her keys to get her medical bag from
the car. "She's expecting again and not well. Won't be long."

As quickly as she shot out the door, Mulder shook his head
and refreshed his computer. *Glad I'm not a woman.*

"Dana! Oh, what a sight for sore eyes."

Dr. Scully pulled out her sphygmomanometer and placed the
cuff on the woman's arm. "Just sit still. Well, a bit high, but
not much. Better watch the sodium intake."

"I am." Monica watched as her pulse was taken by hand.

"Well, your pulse seems normal for your age and condition.
The nausea should pass. Please, go easy on the Tums.
Too much calcium can cause kidney problems.
"Look, I'm not an ob. gyn., but you need some time off. We
heard about the recent cases you and John had." Scully
had had morning sickness with two of her pregnancies.

"We can only ask. I'm sure Skinner would understand,"
Reyes admitted. "I admit, I'm tired. Maybe a nanny or a
neighbor could help out, as John needs the income."

Scully smiled. "Good idea. I'm needed back down in
the office. Do what you can, and call if you need to talk.
Maybe Mandy or Alison could take time off to look in on
you, too."

"You're a good friend, Dana. By the way, I heard John's
ex has a new boy."

"Yes, and Mulder met him by chance. Tell you later. I'm
needed in the office. I believe you'll be fine in a few
weeks. Just ask Skinner for time off."

"I will. Thank you. My parents in Mexico are quite happy."

"Okay. Remember, just ease up and don't worry." Scully
rushed to the office.

"Well?" Mulder closed another file.

"Monica will be fine. Don't worry. Let's get back to work.
Tomorrow is my day off." She opened a file. "Hmm. You'll
find this one easy."

TWO DAYS LATER

Things were not getting any better for Monica.
The pair were mainstream, but how could she work
in the field in that condition? Dry toast, soda biscuits,
sodium bicarbonate (too much sodium isn't a good
idea when pregnant, as her ob./gyn. had said. High
blood pressure.)

Still at home as she had been replaced, she had to
rest and take in as much water, but was unable to
even keep the prenatal vitamins down to absorb them,
and Tums hinder absoption.*Better call Dana,* she
thought. Scully was in the office. Monica decided her
husband need her at work, so she returned.

"Scully."

"Hi, Dana. It's Monica."

"How are you?"

"Good news and bad news, Dana. We're expecting our
second kid, and before you congratulate me, I never
thought morning sickness could be so horrific, even at this
stage. It was so embarrassing having to run to Skinner's
washroom during a meeting."

"Have you called your doctor?" Naturally, she was worried.

"Not yet. I've tried everything from dry soda biscuits to
Tums. Two months along."

"I see. Stay put and I'll be there as soon as I can since the
kids aren't home. Try to get some electolytes in."

"John's out buying some now. Maybe I should ask for
maternity leave early. It wasn't this bad with Anna." The woman
was almost in tears. That was unusual for Monica Reyes.

"Well... John and I were meeting with Skinner to report
on a case, and I'm pregnant again. Anna's in preschool."

"I sense a 'but' here... "

"The morning sickness just hit in early, and I can't hold
anything down. Even tried Tums. I know, we're on company
time."

"Have you seen your ob./gyn.?"

"I intend to, and I do not want to lose this one by sickness
or an unthinkable decision. Gotta go... again..."

Within fifteen minutes, Scully was upstairs to Reyes and
Doggett's place in the bullpen, after breaking the news to
Mulder.

Scully turned to Mulder. "That was Reyes. I'd better get
upstairs."

"What's wrong?"

TWO WEEKS LATER

Scully and her older daughters had managed to make
extra casseroles, very nuritious at that, and Reyes'
morning sickness had managed to decline.

Several months later, Mulder and Scully joined John
Doggett outside of the labor room. Even the Marine didn't
want to see the birth. The Mulders wondered why.

The doctor emerged. "Well, congratulations, Sir. You have
a very healthy ten pound boy. You can all see mother and son
now.

Doggett hardly smiled much, but now he was grinning.

Monica was nursing her boy as all entered.

"So, from what we hear, all is well. Any names?" Scully
inquired.

"Juan, Spanish for John," Monica said as she burped the
newborn. "Thanks for your help, and soon your girls will
be fine Moms."

"Grandparents in our fifties?" Mulder mumbled. "Not unless
we check out any boyfriends first. These days, I'd run
profiles on them."

Monica, Scully and even John were laughing.
